Raw Energy Book Review

Raw Energy: 124 Raw Food Recipes for Energy Bars, Smoothies, and Other Snacks to Supercharge Your Body by Stephanie Tourles published by Storey Publishing.

Don't waste calories on junk food when you can make raw food that the nutritional value is exploding. Your kids will never know your giving them healthy stuff. Raw Energy's 124 recipes consists of recipes for trail mixes, parfaits, energy bars, juice blends, smoothies, soups, vegetables chips, zippy dips, candies, and cookies combine raw ingredients into delicious snacks that are chuck-full of nutrients and long-term energy boosters.

I really like colorful, artful, well laid out books and Raw Energy has all of the above. It is full of images and photographs that make it interesting to look at.

The first three chapters offer basic information. They describe ingredients common in raw food preparation, describe "uncorking," and talk about some kitchen tools that are necessary and /or useful for this type of food preparation. Tourles provides a complete overview of benefits of raw foods.

The remainder of the book consists of the recipes themselves. There is a wide variety here, from nut milks and smoothies to trail mixes to cold soups. the instructions are clear and simple, and there are often several options offered in the ingredients list. Each recipe are ingredients that you usually have or can find quite easy at your local grocery or health food store.
